Johnson at 300 Son et Lumiere

by 52 Weeks of Art

The Samuel Johnson Tercentenary Son et Lumiere was a fantastic success last week. After much planning, research and preperation the artistic team were delighted to bring this one off event to the city.
"It is wonderful to be able to present such a work about Lichfield's most famous son to the people of the city", Project Coordinator and artist Peter Walker. "I would like to thank fellow artists Andy Mckeown and David Harper for their work on the project and their ability to deliver a level of work of the highest standard for this most important event. An event which I hope will be remembered for years to come".
The event incorporated several elements, from a lantern parade, peel of bells from St Mary's Bell ringers, and three wonderful performances by Lichfield Cathedral Choir, conducted by Martin Rawles.
An estimated 1200 people attended the event which demonstrates the appreciation for the visual arts and indeed that people really do care for their city.
Special thanks must go out to Joanne Wilson and Christopher Moulton of Lichfield City Council who worked closely with the artistic team, and whose understanding of the proposed work made the evening such a special occasion.
Images and footage of the event will appear here soon.

School students get opportunity to design public art

by 52 Weeks of Art

Students in Lichfield are to be offered the opportunity to design their very own piece of public art. As part of the public art poster campaign, organizers are to set students the challenge of designing high quality poster designs which relate to an art movement or artist of the 20th century. The posters which will be developed as internal art projects in schools will then feature alongside posters designed by proffessional artists and will be seen on buildings around Lichfield and District.

Collaborative work to preview at Schools in Lichfield Area

by 52 Weeks of Art

52 Weeks of Art will be developing 4 collborative art projects in 2009-2010. These will relate to four different artforms, alongside the development of new audience and participatory opportunities.
Discussions this week wil see artwork produced as a result of these projects being previewed in both Netherstowe High School and Chase Terrace High School. The artworks will be loaned to the schools for academic terms and located in areas of the school where the students will be able to view and interact with. It is aimed that this will help develop students understanding of alternative, abstract and contemporary art practice.
Discussion with other schools in the area with hopefully mean that this opportunity to view artwork will extend to as many students as possible.
The loan of the works will also incorporate an opportunity to discuss the work with artists.
Following display of the work at the schools further venues and locations for exhibition will be sought.
